Why teach the Greek myths?

Because it's part of the curriculum? Well, apart from that . . . Because it equips your students to understand allusions in poetry and literature and, for that matter, the daily newspaper and TV. These are the basics that have worked their way into our very vocabulary. And then there's some more fundamental level on which the myths speak to the human psyche. Not that your students need be concerned with what Freud saw as emblematic of our deepest urges or Jung as expressions of our collective unconscious. The wonderful fact is that the myths are fun. We've certainly had a fine time putting together this website, and we hope that you and your students will find the fun infectious.
